You are Invited…
The American Friends of Lafayette invites you to a Farewell Tour Extravaganza
WHERE? The Hart Cluett Museum, 57 2nd Street, Troy, New York
WHEN? Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1pm to 4pm
WHAT? A Four-Part Program:
I. Alan Hoffman, AFL’s President, will present “A Farewell Tour Primer,” an overview of the tour which Edward Everett described in 1830 as “an event, taken in all its parts, unparalleled in the history of man.”
II. Stacy Pomeroy Draper, Curator Emerita of the Hart Cluett Museum, will present “Welcome Lafayette: Sharing the Evidence of the General’s Farewell Tour.” She will discuss the ephemera and other objects associated with Lafayette’s two visits to Troy.
III. Launch of the 1824 New York State virtual travelogue, which includes stories of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour visits to Albany, Troy, West Point, Poughkeepsie, and seven other towns. We will discuss the creation of the app and debut the web version of some of these stories.
IV. Museum Tours. The Museum has graciously agreed to open on Saturday, March 1 from 1pm to 4pm just for this event. Therefore, you will be able to tour the museum either before or, more likely, after the program.
This is a FREE EVENT… But we would like to know how many of you to expect for planning purposes, as we intend to provide refreshments. Please register here.
